That should get you thesource code to the most recent version of Perl, which is currently 5.10.0.Download it, extract it somewhere, and open up a terminal. Download the Perl SourceJust link to click the 'Download' link at the top of the page. If all you can get is Perl 5.8,though, you'll need to compile it yourself. It's always better to install thingsso that your package manager is aware of their existence rather than to goahead and install something behind its back. Does your vendor already have Perl 5.10?If you can install Perl 5.10 via yum, apt, portage, or whatever your packagemanager is, I highly recommend you do it. Note: You may be tempted to do a `yum remove perl` to removethe 5.8 version that your distribution came with. My default Perl is 5.16, so I've installed 5.18 to get the latest, 5.10, 5.12, and 5.8.9 to match as closely as possible the version of Perl we run on our RHEL servers. ![]() So I installed ActivePerl 5.14 (newest version) because I thought that perl has been deleted. I updated to Mountain Lion 4 days ago and then realised that my perl scripts did not work any longer. ![]()
